Dec. 21 Game Celebrates Houston's Soccer Past, Present,
and Future
Pin Oak Site of Match
Young soccer players had a chance
to see, up-close, some real stars to inspire them in the game that they all
enjoy so much.
It was an exceptional evening of soccer, right on our own fields Dec. 21, as two teams of Houston home-grown soccer talent took the field for a 90-minute exhibition.
The match featured MLS players
like Josh Gardner (LA), Ricky Lewis (Colorado), Chris Gbandi (FC Dallas),
Arturo Alvarez (FC Dallas), Davey Arnaud (KC) and top college
players and a few ex-professionals.
It was a tremendous opportunity for our youth players to see the speed, athleticism, and skill of some of the very best players from the area who have become some of the best in the country.
Two former BSC players were invited to play. Kevin Goldberg didn't play, due to ankle injuries. Ian Ankney played about half the game. Both had come up through the program with our original Bruise team.
The game was the brainchild of Glenn
Davis, who also introduced the players, highlighted the tremendous breeding
ground that Houston-area soccer fields have been, and later hosted his
weekly radio show on-location.
A big thanks to A&E-The Graphics Complex, for making and donating the great (big) BSC banner which lists all of our team sponsors for 2005-06.
Also, a big thank you to the coaches and parents who helped prepare the field, serve as event hosts, sell cookies and hot chocolate -- and who brought their players to watch this great event.
