News

Fall 2007:

I. Read Everything Below in this Box From Earlier Seasons. It is Still Mostly Relevant.

II. Preseason News from HYSA:
If you are a younger referee who will only work club-assigned games, you do not need to note the following.  For referees who plan to work HYSA-assigned games:

Gary Duke will be the new HYSA referee assignor starting with the Fall 2007 season.

If you already have your 2007 patch you are covered for the fall season. You can take a recertification class this summer which will get your 2008 re-certification.. If you are not already a referee or want to upgrade from Grade 9 to Grade 8 then you must take a course this summer. A complete list of clinics and instructions on how to get on the registration list is available at www.stsr.org .  Click the blue dropdown at the "Referee Program Clinics" box on the left, then click All Clinics. Then read and follow all instructions.

You must plan to attend one preseason HYSA referee meeting in late August. Dates are:

  • August 22 (Wed.) at Bayland Park meeting room (time TBA)

  • Second date to be announced in Fort Bend (likely the following week).

Spring 2008:

I. Club-Assigned Games:
Marsha Zimmermann will notify our referees about the schedule via email. Referees will indicate games they would like to work by return email to the assignor. The club assignor will send out the assignments and will expect a confirming email from you to be sure you are aware of your assignment.  Payment will be by check sent in the mail -- most likely monthly.  Pay scale published below since Fall 2006 is in force for this season.

II. HYSA-Assigned Games:
Scheduling by the HYSA assignor will again be through the Arbiter website system. As spring is a more minor season than fall, there is no pre-season meeting by HYSA to give referees the usual procedures review and training on Arbiter.

  • Referees Experienced with Arbiter and the HYSA-assignment process: read Shelly Landry's preseason memo, which she sent to her list on Feb. 27.
  • New Referees wishing to take HYSA assignments this spring can contact or Mark or Marsha Zimmermann bsc.ref.assignor@gmail.com or Ron Vlaskamp rcvlaskamp@sbcglobal.net  for a quick primer and advice about how to get hooked into this process.
  • Pay scale published below for Fall 2006 is in force for this season. Payment comes by HYSA check after the season.

Fall 2006 - Ambitious HYSA Quota

For those referees who are able to contribute toward the required HYSA quota (Adult and experienced high school Grade 8 referees), we will have an ambitious quota of HYSA assignments to work. Each week we will need to make no fewer than 8-9 assignments, while also reaching mid-teens every few weekends.  Having 7 people average 10 games this season and 8 average 5 games this season, we will do fine. Where do you fit in?  Email Ron Vlaskamp at rcvlaskamp@sbcglobal.net

Pay Scale

Beginning Fall 2006 HYSA has increased its rate of pay for the games it assigns and the club has followed suit for the games we assign:

Age Center A.R. Note
U8 $26 (BSC) (none) Assigned by club
U9/U10 $26 (BSC) $13 (BSC) Assigned by club
U11-U14 $26 (HYSA)* $13 (BSC) Center/HYSA; AR/Club
U15+ $40 (HYSA)* $20 (HYSA)* Assigned by HYSA
*These positions count toward the club's HYSA quota!

Pay frequency:

HYSA pays referees only at the end of the season.

The club pays approximately monthly.  Our assignor submits pay information to our treasurer.

Need a Certification Class? Get Moving!

Last call for certification/recertification clinics if you are not certified.  The current courses give certification for 2008.  To work games you must have 2008 certification. If you took the class in the fall you may already have your 2008 certification.

Game Reporting U11 and older: online and by mail

Please remember the referee must report the name of the officials who worked the game. You can do this online from the HYSA website's referee section. This for only U11 and above games. HYSA uses this to keep up with the referee quota (make sure the correct officials get credit) and help generate the reports for your pay.  ARs do not need to report.

Reports must be in by 5pm of the Tuesday following the game

You must also mail in the paper copy of the game report to the HYSA Administrator. This is the official game report.

Any game where a red card is issued also requires an additional report. See website or your preseason handout for details.
